Horcutis Abaphyllus
Description: Mats of fuzzy blue-green algae that rests atop the water. Mats produce stems with triangular leaf structures capable of collecting sunlight and heat. Internal vascular tissues transfer heated fluid into root-like tendrils that disperse the heat into the cold stone and ice beneath the mat. Colonies organize themselves into cells capable of isolating should damage breach the sealed dermis of the structure as a whole. Stems, mats, and tendrils can be isolated and regrown after being damaged, desiccating, or decompressing.
Habitat: Abaphyllus makes its home on the surfaces of icy asteroids, preferring less solid bodies that are easier to dig their tendrils into.
Reproduction: Abaphyllus is able to reproduce asexually by budding when space and resources are 'abundant'. When in the presence of a different colony both will engage in sexual reproduction. Spores are grown on the ends of stem appendages and stick themselves to grazing animals to be transported elsewhere.
